Obama should take a page out of the playbook of Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) and get arrested as part of a civil disobedience protest. Ellison was protesting the genocide in Darfur, which doing something about should be the responsibility of Congress. By getting arrested, Obama would open the door for Bush and Cheney to get arrested.
Meanwhile, Cheney is being compared to Jack Nicholson in “A Few Good Men” because he is incriminating himself wherever he goes as part of a public relations offensive to taint the jury pool regarding his use of assault and torture and lying to Congress.
Nancy Pelosi is pushing back regarding her role in the torture briefings, saying that Congress was misled and asking for the briefings to be made public. Greens are furious with Pelosi for taking impeachment off the table in the first place.
Obama has flip-flopped on the issue of transparency regarding the release of new photos of prisoner abuse by the U.S., saying it could further endanger our own troops when they are captured. People who voted for Obama feel betrayed, and the ACLU is rightfully upset. I am tempted to pile on, but Obama may yet redeem himself if the pictures are entered as evidence in a trial of Bush and Cheney.
In yet another development, the prisoner who was originally tortured to extract a confession on the link between Iraq and Al-Qaeda was found dead of hanging in his cell in Libya. This has all the appearances of a conspiracy to kill a potentially powerful witness for the prosecution. Question is, who would give the order? Obama is president. Does Cheney still have chronies in the hierarchy that would defy Obama?
