Contain Hamas

I listened to conservative talk radio today and they were comparing Hamas to Hitler. I think if Hamas is contained, it won't matter if they recognize Israel's right to exist. If they're providing services for the Palestinians, maybe this can mark the beginning of a long cooling off period. If they can prosper and stay on their own side of the wall, maybe things will work out ok.

Who in that part of the world, have never engaged in terror tactics. If you rule out talking to terrorists, who'll talk??

The right to nationhood for Palestine, makes no difference who leads them. They need a land.

I was talking about it with a conservative friend today. He's worried about suicide bombers. I said maybe the wall is good right now, if they can get water wells, etc. on the Palestinian side.

I've changed my position.

I still think Hamas by default, has to be talked to.

If you think secular Fatah was corrupt, wait until Hamas is in power. The most corrupt governments are the clerical.

Israel used to subsidize Hamas against Fatah, in the days when Fatah was leftist. Arafat called Hamas, an Israeli creation.

Fatah differentiated between Zionism and Jews, unlike Hamas.

Maybe Hamas is Israel's Osama, which raises the question of whether they are still on the payroll!

Well, you have posted a lot since I visited last, Tom. :-)

I figure everything in the Middle East comes down to three things: water, oil, and land. Religion and terrorism are just tools to affect how those resources are allocated.
