2014 Postmortem

Rachel Maddow said that in politics you don't win by playing defense. I don't trust the Democrats. I think they've been playing too much defense for too long. This article shows how Democrats could have played offense.

Now that the Republicans have a majority in the US Senate, but not enough to break filibusters, it will be interesting to see if they invoke the "nuclear option" when they convene in January. That might actually be a good thing, if it sets a precedent, and the Democrats take back control in 2016. That's if you trust the Democrats. I’m concerned that Obama will sign some bad deals, and his betrayal of the base will be complete. And Hillary. I get a sick feeling in my stomach when pundits like Chris Matthews talk about her as the presumptive nominee.

In Minnesota, Franken joked about why he didn’t “own” his alignments with Obama, recalling that last time he only won by 312 votes. Dayton built a record and ran on it, but I don’t know why the DFL lost the Minnesota House. If people get cynical and say that the people are stupid, I can’t say I blame them.

Andy Dawkins got over one percent, which might be enough for minor party status, but you need five percent for major party status. It is so incredibly difficult to get around the two-party machine.

The optimistic viewpoint is that younger voters are rejecting the Republican Party, and that this trend is permanent. God please deliver us from Republican destructionism.

Yeah but if the women don't have completely free will, then we don't know who they really are, and we are alone.
