Animals are like people
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has come under fire for ads comparing images of animal abuse and slavery. But they're not saying that people are like animals, they're saying that animals are like people.

I remember once someone here in San Antonio wrote a letter to the editor of the paper and said, "Remember, animals are people too!!"
Obviously cruelty is inappropriate irregardless of whether animals are people or not.
At the same time, my ex-boyfriend, who is a vegan he is so dedicated to animal rights, dislikes PETA. They have been a bit over the top at times and have lost credibility from it. So even when they address issues like this that are very important, they aren't taken seriously.
I did like their presidential candidate though. Chris P. Carrot sounded like a winner to me, although he may have just had the right campaign manager.
