Bush is Pure Evil

He lied about WMD so he could kill Iraqis and steal their oil, violating the Sixth, Eighth, and Ninth Commandments, all in the name of God. Doesn’t sound very Christian to me.

Man! "And from the far left, Tom throws a gargantuan size sucker punch of liberal propaganda that would make Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton blush purple!"

Man. I thought you had something intelligent to post on Bush. I saw your man Nader on Fox today (to let you know he is getting some coverage!).

We know that Bush lied about WMD, and that American companies are now in charge of the Iraqi oil. This explains why Bush chose Iraq instead of Iran or North Korea, where the nuclear threat is greater, or Sudan, where the humanitarian threat is as great. The rest follows by force of logic. See my September 5 post “Gingrich admits it’s an oil war.”

It really is amazing that Bush or any Republican can call themselves Christian. In the New Testament Jesus is clear as a bell on many issues. He denounces wealth and greed, opposes violence in categorical terms with his "turn the other cheek" philosophy, and stands clearly in defense of the poor. If Jesus were alive today, these neocons would dismiss him for his politics and his lifestyle, as a radical pacifist and a wandering bum!

Thanks, Corey. Here are some of those verses:

7The godly know the rights of the poor; the wicked don't care to know. (Prov 29:7)

8"Take no bribes, for a bribe makes you ignore something that you clearly see. A bribe always hurts the cause of the person who is in the right. (Exod 23:8)

24"No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other, or be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money. (Matt 6:24)

21If your enemies are hungry, give them food to eat. If they are thirsty, give them water to drink. 22You will heap burning coals on their heads, and the LORD will reward you. (Prov 25:21-22)

9"How terrible it will be for you who get rich by unjust means! You believe your wealth will buy security, putting your families beyond the reach of danger. 10But by the murders you committed, you have shamed your name and forfeited your lives. (Hab 2:9-10)

3The LORD will settle international disputes. All the nations will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. All wars will stop, and military training will come to an end. 4Everyone will live quietly in their own homes in peace and prosperity, for there will be nothing to fear. The LORD Almighty has promised this! (Mic 4:3-4)

9"When you harvest your crops, do not harvest the grain along the edges of your fields, and do not pick up what the harvesters drop. 10It is the same with your grape crop--do not strip every last bunch of grapes from the vines, and do not pick up the grapes that fall to the ground. Leave them for the poor and the foreigners who live among you, for I, the LORD, am your God. (Lev 19:9-10)

5So you must obey the government for two reasons: to keep from being punished and to keep a clear conscience. 6Pay your taxes, too, for these same reasons. For government workers need to be paid so they can keep on doing the work God intended them to do. 7Give to everyone what you owe them: Pay your taxes and import duties, and give respect and honor to all to whom it is due. (Rom 13:5-7)

5Listen to me, dear brothers and sisters. Hasn't God chosen the poor in this world to be rich in faith? Aren't they the ones who will inherit the Kingdom he promised to those who love him? 6And yet, you insult the poor man! Isn't it the rich who oppress you and drag you into court? 7Aren't they the ones who slander Jesus Christ, whose noble name you bear? 8Yes indeed, it is good when you truly obey our Lord's royal command found in the Scriptures: "Love your neighbor as yourself."[3] 9But if you pay special attention to the rich, you are committing a sin, for you are guilty of breaking that law. (Jas 5:5-9)

12I said, `Plant the good seeds of righteousness, and you will harvest a crop of my love. Plow up the hard ground of your hearts, for now is the time to seek the LORD, that he may come and shower righteousness upon you.' 13"But you have cultivated wickedness and raised a thriving crop of sins. You have eaten the fruit of lies--trusting in your military might, believing that great armies could make your nation safe! 14Now the terrors of war will rise among your people. All your fortifications will fall, just as they did when Shalman destroyed Beth-arbel. Even mothers and children were dashed to death there. (Hos 10:12-14)

38"You have heard that the law of Moses says, `If an eye is injured, injure the eye of the person who did it. If a tooth gets knocked out, knock out the tooth of the person who did it.'[12] 39But I say, don't resist an evil person! If you are slapped on the right cheek, turn the other, too. 40If you are ordered to court and your shirt is taken from you, give your coat, too. 41If a soldier demands that you carry his gear for a mile,[13] carry it two miles. 42Give to those who ask, and don't turn away from those who want to borrow. 43"You have heard that the law of Moses says, `Love your neighbor'[14] and hate your enemy. 44But I say, love your enemies![15] Pray for those who persecute you! 45In that way, you will be acting as true children of your Father in heaven. For he gives his sunlight to both the evil and the good, and he sends rain on the just and on the unjust, too. 46If you love only those who love you, what good is that? Even corrupt tax collectors do that much. 47If you are kind only to your friends,[16] how are you different from anyone else? Even pagans do that. 48But you are to be perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect. (Matt 5:38-48)

"The establishment" is too general a word to mean anything. I mean, the Constitution is part of the establishment. The Bill of Rights is part of the establishment. Are you against these things? Would you throw the baby out with the bath water?

Anti-establishment is just reactionary thinking, and reactionary thinking doesn't distinguish the good things from the bad. It's just too generalized to be useful.

It's a bit like attacking all of Iraq to take out Saddam Hussein. Of course, you have to look a little closer at problems if you want to separate the wheat from the chaff.

When I talk about the establishment, I’m referring to our corrupt two-party system, where corporations bribe politicians to act against the best interests of the people. The establishment is to blame for our bloated, wasteful Pentagon budget, our lack of commitment to wind power and public transit, increased auto emissions and greenhouse gases, higher drug and health insurance costs, the export of jobs overseas, and agribusiness herbicides, pesticides, and mutated food hazards. The list goes on and on.

Don’t tell me Kerry had nothing to do with it. He’s been in the Senate for 20 years. He voted for the War in Iraq, the Patriot Act, No Child Left Behind, NAFTA, and Most Favored Nation treatment for Communist China. He may be the lesser of the two evils, but he is still a part of the problem. D+ and D- are both failing grades.

I’m doing my part to fight the establishment. I’m voting for Ralph Nader.

You sound like a broken record, Tom. But then so does Ralph Nader. I guess when you listen to the same record over and over again, you start to know the song.

With all due respect, the same can be said about you. We aren't going to agree this election cycle, but I hope you'll consider some of these arguments as the political landscape evolves in the coming years. If Bush wins, I hope Democrats will field a more progressive candidate next time. If Kerry wins, I hope you'll hold him accountable on the issues I've mentioned.

The Saudis could wreak havoc by pulling their money out of our stock market, but they would harm themselves in the process. It would be a desperate move, but they could resort to it. The King is in poor health and there is infighting among the princes. The U.S. has pulled bases out of the country, away from possible unrest, poised to march in if necessary. In terms of oil, Saudi Arabia is even bigger than Iraq.

At the same time, the Bush and bin Laden families have a history of business dealings, and it is doubtful that Osama bin Laden was estranged from his family, as is popularly believed. Since he helped us defeat the Soviets, U.S. relations with Afghan rebels have remained strong over the years. I think we should cooperate with other countries in tracking down the terrorists. Who knows? We may need to turn over Bush!

Nader is holding Republicans accountable by running against Bush. He is holding Democrats accountable by running against Kerry. Nader is doing everything in his power to put an end this corrupt system. In recent elections, third parties have shown that they can threaten the elite, so it makes sense that they would give us a President like Bush, who scares the hell out of people. But that doesn’t make the Democrat alternative acceptable. A vote for Kerry is a vote for war.

I think Nader has received more media attention this year (Meet the Press, CNN, etc.), perhaps because of his "spoiler" image from 2000. This is not translating into more votes, because people are afraid of Bush.

To hold people accountable, you have to have a measure of control over them, and Nader is not in power so he can't. All he can do call attention to the wrongdoings of this corrupt two-party system. If you don't think he's done that, please click the link I have provided to his site.

Compelling. I think I’ll vote for Bush. At least my name-calling has some supporting arguments. My brother, a Kerry supporter, said that to vote for Bush, a person has to be rich, religious, or retarded. This guy sounds like the third.

I guess you can say Nader holds Bush accountable, or answerable, but Bush won’t account. I couldn’t find a link to this recent Nader email so I’m just pasting it in:

Dear Friend,

Perhaps the most remarkable aspect of the Presidency of George W. Bush is the sheer volume of havoc it has been able to wreak upon the country and the world in just four years.

President Bush's election was dubious and his first 100 days unremarkable. His administration's response to the events of September 11th, 2001 has summarily squandered the diplomatic favor of the international community.

The President's economic policies have catapulted the national debt to $7.3 trillion. Bush is the first President since Herbert Hoover to preside over a net loss of jobs. His administration has underfunded its own education act by $9.4 billion, while continuing to starve the safety regulatory agencies. The Bush White House has turned a $236 billion surplus in 2001 into a $422 billion deficit and has spent the Social Security surplus Bush had promised to protect in 2000.

Bush's cabinet is a loose amalgamation of neoconservative warmongers, who have steered us into an unconstitutional $150 billion war and occupation on a platform of deceptions and fabrications. The blood of over 1,100 American soldiers and thousands upon thousands of civilian Iraqis is on the Bush administration's hands.

Bush's energy policy was written behind closed doors by the very corporate interests who stood in position to benefit from its $23 billion-plus in corporate tax breaks.

Bush has supported a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriages and has tried at every turn to propose some of the most ideologically bent judicial appointees in recent memory; yet the President declaims "activist judges."

The President has given free reign to Attorney General John Ashcroft, poster boy for the anti-civil liberties PATRIOT ACT. Thousands of innocent people were rounded up after 9/11 and mistreated in prison—arrested in many cases without charges and incarcerated without lawyers. Many were held in inhumane conditions. None of these hundreds of detainees were found to have links to terrorism.

Bush's idea of environmental stewardship is a joke. His original EPA administrator, former New Jersey Governor Christine Todd Whitman, resigned after two years of frustration with the White House, for which she inevitably took heat from environmentalists while President Bush pulled the strings. Hundreds of millions of acres of public land are unprotected thanks to the Bush administration; the President reneged on his 2000 campaign pledge to control the carbon dioxide emissions that contribute so greatly to global warming, and the Environmental Protection Agency stands to suffer a budget cut of $600 million dollars in fiscal year 2005. The influence of the anti-environmental corporate lobby on the Bush administration is palpable.

Bush's special counsel has been implicated in the creation of an intricate network of legal pretexts justifying torture, in direct violation of Geneva Conventions, the United Nations charter, and our own federal law.

All this, and George W. Bush—the no-fault President—has been incapable of admitting to a single mistake while in office; and he ran as the responsibility President in 2000!
