On the perimeter
Here I am with Rosa Clemente, Green Party candidate for Vice President!
This is as close as we could get to the Xcel Energy Center, as part of the March on the RNC Monday. Observe the barricades behind us.
Other prominent Greens in the picture are Farheen Hakeem, at left, candidate for State Rep. in Minneapolis, and Jesse Mortenson, at right holding sign overhead, who was a candidate for State Rep. in St. Paul in 2006. One of our people tripped on the curb which is why there are signs on the ground. She recovered fully as part of our peaceful protest!
I’m wearing my Cynthia McKinney REAL T-shirt and Farheen Hakeem cowboy hat…
Earlier in the day, Rosa gave a great speech at the State Capitol. We held our signs in the audience and appeared on C-SPAN. Also appearing on C-SPAN Monday was Green Party Spokesperson Dave Bicking. I was interviewed by some student journalists from China and by Bobby Bascomb of Public Radio International’s program Living on Earth.
After a march to the 35W Bridge Collapse site, I attended the 2008 National Truth Commission where Rosa Clemente served as a commissioner. The commission determined that the Republican and Democrat administrations are guilty of violations of human rights.

I'm the photographer of this picture. In the march there was a lot of energy and commitment to get out the peace message. We met people from all over the state and other states who came to show their support for peace. It was great to be part of the march.

I watched Sarah Palin’s speech tonight. I’m so glad we have Rosa Clemente as our Vice Presidential candidate.
I think Palin wants to appeal to small town American voters. Some people will probably identify with her and forget how awful the Republicans are on war, torture, deficits, civil liberties, human rights, jobs, schools, infrastructure, etc.
The Obama people may take issue with her claim that he would raise taxes, since he said in his speech that he would lower taxes for the bottom 95%. McKinney, and a Green congress in 2010, would save more than Obama by passing Single Payer Health Care and cutting the funding for Iraq.
Greens believe in personal environmental responsibility by watching what we consume and throw out, and global environmental responsibility by phasing out nuclear power and moving more quickly to renewable wind and solar. It’s great that the corporate parties are finally adopting parts of the Green Party vision, but when delegates chanted “Drill Baby Drill” I could feel the fear in my heart and stomach. Palin, who is from Alaska, wants to drill the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Republicans won’t be happy until the last drop of oil is drilled and the last ounce of coal excavated. Besides defacing pristine habitat, it also robs future generations of a last resort supply in case their very survival is at stake. Wood is not hot enough. Fossil fuels will be needed to forge steel for the maintenance and replacement of tomorrow’s wind turbines.
Based on what I’ve been hearing on liberal talk radio, the vetting process of Palin will continue. Questions include:
Did she abuse her power in trying to get her brother-in-law fired?
Is she associated with a political party that wants Alaska to secede from the Union?
Did she pull strings to get federal pork barrel money?
Was she for the “Bridge to Nowhere” before she was against it?
Did she really want to take polar bears off the endangered species list so people could hunt them?
Did she support killing wolf pups in their dens?
Is there footage of her with a suffering, dying elk?
Does she hunt from out of a plane? I’ve heard that shooting moose is like shooting cows.
