Blueprint for a Post-AI World

Will AI and robots take over? Will we lose our jobs? Will we go extinct?

I asked ChatGPT what things humans can do better than AI. It was things having to do with leadership: Setting goals, taking responsibility, establishing trust, providing meaning and direction.

If that’s what I’m good for, then let me put a stake in the ground, right here, right now, and do my part to take the lead in constructing the post-AI future.

AI will tell you that our fate depends on which humans are in control of the AI. So that’s the first thing. Making sure the people in charge have the best interests of the people in mind. That goes not only for AI, but for everything else. Elections are supposed to take care of this. We need as much vigilance as it takes. The benefits of automation can go to the many, or they can go to the few. Balance is probably what is needed. Reward the innovators without becoming slaves to them.

As things become more automated, it makes sense to value the real over the imaginary. People can survive without AI. They cannot survive without food. The basics of life need to be prioritized. Respect and compensate farmers accordingly. And again, reward the innovators without becoming slaves to them.

Let’s bring out the best in people. I am all in favor of a utopia where food, clothing, shelter and more are abundant, and where nobody has to work for a living. If we can devote most of our time to sports and arts, that would be wonderful.

But I also think we can nurture our sense of well-being if we spend part of our time learning how things work. Learning how to fix things if they ever break. Learning how to make a fire, drive a combine, or bake a computer chip.

We can also nurture our sense of well-being if we develop and strengthen those things humans can do better than AI. Things related to leadership.

But not everyone can be a leader. Or can they? That's kind of what a republic is based on. People vote for leaders, and the leaders are supposed to serve the people. So the people are the leaders. With checks and balances, rights, and protections from mob rule.

And in the creative space, you don't have to be in the majority to have an impact, or at least make a little splash. AI can be exceedingly creative, but it is humans who give creativity meaning and direction.

The Celtic Dreamcatcher design is inspired by the old and new Minnesota flags, but it also symbolizes the distribution of power. All Men are Created Equal, and when we say that, of course we mean all people are created equal.

The 16 points on the dreamcatcher represent multiples of 2, 4, 8, and so on, doubling to symbolize multitudes of people. The hoops represent the circle of life. The web symbolizes positive energy and the filtering out of negative energy. To me, the beads are a reminder of creativity, innovation and problem-solving.

The feathers symbolize protection. The white feathers for protection from military attacks, and the colorful feathers for protection from spies.

Now imagine a scenario where suddenly all of our problems are solved, and it's a scary feeling, not knowing what to do. I would say, take stock, get some rest, get counseling if needed, and then start sketching out a meaningful daily routine.

Peace, love, truth, under God. Amen.
