Syria predictions

Today I visited D.J. Strohl, who predicted that the Syrian regime will soon run out of money, but even before that, rebels will discover they can use hand-held rocket launchers to target the more stationary Syrian army, and with ever-increasing defections, overtake the Assad regime. D.J. and I are both peace activists, but even we agree that force may be the only way to stop Assad's massacres.

D.J. Strohl has since passed away. He was the featured voice in the second radio ad we ran for Farheen Hakeem for Governor in 2010. He was the most fearless and tireless door-knocker I have ever known, and the state's top signature-gatherer, along with Amber Garlan. He would ride his bike all around the Minneapolis Powderhorn neighborhood, even though he lived in St. Louis Park, and wore my hand-me-down bicycle helmet. He provided a dumpster to help keep his neighborhood clean. He was a fixture at the May Day Cafe, the most politically progressive hangout in Minneapolis. In 2010 we took a road trip to Washington, D.C. together for the One Nation March. I will miss our conversations. He was interested in religious diversity, married into a Jewish family and campaigned for a Muslim candidate. He was knowledgeable on all political issues, from world to local, and his wisdom will be missed.
