Bean Feed a telling expression

The Democrats sometimes hold something called a "Bean Feed" to raise money from their working class supporters. I think "Bean Feed" is a telling expression. I get this image of people being herded like livestock, dutifully consuming their silage, their owners calmly enduring the inevitable flatulence.
